Girl Injured by Stray Bullet in Christmas Eve Shooting, Later Involved in Car Accident
HOUSTON, TX – A 12-year-old girl was injured by a stray bullet from celebratory gunfire on Christmas Eve and later involved in a car accident while being transported to the hospital. The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of Westpark Drive and Hillcroft Avenue.
The girl was walking with her mother outside an apartment complex when she was struck in the leg by a stray bullet. A neighbor witnessed the incident and offered to drive the mother and daughter to the hospital. However, due to wet road conditions from earlier thunderstorms, the neighbor’s vehicle was involved in a two-car collision.
Houston Police Department (HPD) and Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to the accident scene. The girl, the only reported injury, was then transported to the hospital by HFD officials and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“We just want everyone to be safe,” said HPD Sgt. Ali. “Everybody wants to be outside and have a good time. We just want everybody to do it safely.” Authorities have not yet identified the individual who fired the gun.
