Someone sends you a ZIP file and your device has nothing to open it with — or you would rather not install yet another program. This free ZIP extractor opens the archive right here: choose the .zip file, see every file and folder inside listed in a table, and download exactly the pieces you need, one by one or all at once. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is uploaded and no software is installed. It is the quick way to peek inside a download, rescue one document from a large archive, or check what you were actually sent.
How the ZIP extractor works
When you choose a file, the extractor reads the archive’s own directory — the index every ZIP carries at its end — and lists each entry by its full path inside the archive, folders included. Nothing is unpacked until you ask for it. Press Download next to a file and the tool decompresses just that entry and saves it under its own name; press Download all files and it works through the list one at a time, so your browser receives a short, orderly queue of ordinary downloads instead of one rebuilt archive. Archives with more than 500 entries show the first 500 rows, with a note saying so.
How to open a ZIP file online
Click Choose a .zip file and pick the archive from your device. Within a moment the table appears: every folder and file in the archive, in path order. Scan the list first — it is the fastest way to confirm the sender packed what they promised. Then either download the single file you came for, or use Download all files and let each file save individually; if your browser asks permission for multiple downloads, allow it for this page. Downloaded files keep their original names, minus the folder path.
Why unzip in the browser instead of installing software
Classic unzip programs are fine on your own computer, but they are a poor answer everywhere else: a borrowed laptop, a school or work machine you cannot install anything on, a tablet, or a one-off archive you will never open again. A browser extractor asks for no installation, no administrator rights and no updates, and it leaves nothing behind when you close the tab. It is also a safer first look at an archive from an unfamiliar sender, because you can read the full file list before a single file is extracted to your device.
Private by design
Archives often hold the most personal files of all — photo collections, documents, backups — so where they are opened matters. Here the extraction happens locally in the browser, and nothing is uploaded to any server: the archive is read on your device, entries are decompressed in this page, and downloads go straight back to your device. There is no account, no cloud copy and no history of what you opened. Load the page, and the work still happens even if you disconnect afterwards.
ZIP files this tool cannot open
A few archives will refuse, and the tool says so plainly rather than failing silently. Password-protected and encrypted ZIPs cannot be opened — there is deliberately nowhere to type a password, because your archive never meets a server that could try one. Split multi-part archives (.zip.001, .z01 and friends) need their parts joined by a desktop tool first, and a genuinely corrupt download has to be fetched again. The extractor also opens standard ZIP only, not RAR or 7z; those need their own tools.
ZIP Extractor – frequently asked questions
Is the ZIP extractor free?
Yes. It is completely free, needs no sign-up, and you can open as many archives as you like.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The extraction happens locally in your browser and nothing is uploaded — the archive never leaves your device.
Can it open password-protected ZIP files?
No. Encrypted archives cannot be opened here. Open those with a desktop tool where you can enter the password locally.
What does “Download all” save, exactly?
Every file in the archive, one download at a time, each under its original name. Folder entries themselves are skipped — only the files inside them are saved.
