O'Hare Frozen: 100 Flights Cancelled
O’Hare International Airport experienced significant flight disruptions Monday morning, January 6th, 2025, due to severe winter weather. A ground stop, implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at approximately 6:30 a.m., lasted just over an hour due to snow and icy conditions. The ground stop was lifted around 7:45 a.m., but a ground delay remained in effect until 10:00 a.m., causing average delays of 48 minutes.

The inclement weather resulted in the cancellation of nearly 100 flights at O’Hare by 7:45 a.m., according to FlightAware. The National Weather Service issued warnings for slick roads due to freezing rain and predicted snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches by Monday afternoon. Delays continued throughout the morning, impacting numerous travelers.
