The bedroom should be the easiest room to keep calm, and in most homes it is the opposite: the wardrobe is full, the dresser is a landing strip, and one chair holds a permanent pile of clothes that are too clean for the laundry and too worn for the drawer. This checklist fixes the bedroom in the order that works: clear out first, then assign every category of clothing and bedding a real place, then protect your sleep with dust control, then hold it all with a ten-minute weekly routine.
Tick each task as you finish it — your progress saves, so the job can run over two or three evenings. The closet itself has its own deep checklist, linked below, if the rails and shelves need a full rebuild.
The short version: 70 tasks, about 5.9 hours in total if you do it in one go — and every task can be ticked off in the checklist above as you finish it. The full list is written out below, so the page still works printed or saved.

Pro Tips
- The chair is not a storage category. If an item lands there twice, it does not have a home yet — give it one or let it go.
- Two bedding sets per bed is the whole system: one on, one clean in the drawer. A third set is storage you do not need.
- File-fold drawer clothes (standing upright in rows) instead of stacking. You see everything and the piles cannot collapse.
- Dust falls, so in the bedroom work high to low: wardrobe tops, frames, surfaces, floor last — especially if allergies wake you up at night.
- Vacuum bags shrink off-season clothes to about a third of their size, but keep one favourite jumper out. Total restriction is why rotation systems get abandoned.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I stop the clothes chair from coming back?
The chair fills because some clothes have no quick home. Give 'worn once, will wear again' clothes one hook or one open basket — a legal halfway home — and clear it on laundry day without exception.
Where should off-season clothes go in a small bedroom?
Vacuum-bagged under the bed or on the wardrobe top, labelled with the season and the month to swap. Prime rail and drawer space belongs to what you are wearing this month.
How often should bedding be washed and pillows replaced?
Sheets weekly, pillowcases with them, protectors monthly, duvets a few times a year. Most pillows last one to two years; if yours folds in half and stays folded when you let go, replace it.
My bedroom is also my closet and office. Can this still work?
Yes — zone it. The checklist's systems (one drawer category each, the nightstand five, a lidded box for papers) matter more in a multi-use room, not less. The home office checklist covers the work zone in depth.
