Pakistan’s machine readable passport (MRP) photo is a 2×2 inch square on a plain white background, with your head filling 70–80% of the frame — a bigger face than the US photo of the same outer size. This maker crops to the exact square, draws the 70–80% head band as guide lines, and downloads 600×600 pixels at 300 DPI plus a printable 4×6 sheet.
Pakistan runs two systems, so check your route: this maker follows the DGIP passport specification used at passport offices and missions abroad. The NADRA online portal used for some renewals instead asks for a 35×45 mm photo (at least 413×531 pixels, white background, under about 350 KB) — if you are renewing through Pak-ID, use the 35×45 maker on this site. The tool only sizes and crops and never changes your background; always confirm the current requirements on the DGIP or NADRA site before applying.
The official Pakistan photo requirements
| Photo size | 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm), square |
|---|---|
| This download | 600 × 600 px JPEG at 300 DPI |
| Head height | 70–80% of the photo (about 36–41 mm), chin to top of head |
| Background | Plain white only — NADRA/DGIP reject grey or off-white |
| Recency | Within the last 6 months |
| Digital file | Online MRP uploads: JPEG, up to 5 MB |
| NADRA online portal route | 35×45 mm, min 413×531 px at 300 DPI, max ~350 KB — different spec, check your route |
The photo must show a close-up of your full head and shoulders, only you in the frame, in clear contrast to the white background. Wear a coloured top — a white shalwar kameez against a white wall is a classic cause of rejection because the shoulders disappear into the background.
Pose, background and glasses
Face the camera directly with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open, head not tilted. Glasses are not allowed. Head coverings worn for religious reasons — hijab or dupatta — are permitted as long as the full face is visible from chin to forehead and the covering casts no shadow on the face. No uniforms, no filters, no retouching, and no red-eye.
How to take the photo at home
- Stand in front of a plain white wall in even daylight, wearing a coloured top for contrast.
- Have someone take the photo at eye level from about a metre away — passport offices do not accept selfies.
- Remove glasses, keep a neutral expression, and take several shots.
- Upload the best one here and drag it so the top of your head touches the red line.
- Zoom until your chin is between the green lines — your head should fill 70–80% of the frame.
- Download the 600×600 photo or the print sheet.
Why Pakistan photos get rejected
- Head too small — under 70% of the frame is the usual failure.
- A grey, off-white or shadowed background instead of pure white.
- White clothing merging with the background so the shoulders vanish.
- Glasses, sunglasses or glare on the eyes.
- Head covering shadowing or covering part of the face.
- An old, edited or filtered photo.
Printing your photos
The print sheet download places 2 copies on a standard 4×6 inch (10×15 cm) print at exactly 300 DPI. Print it at 100% scale — never “fit to page” — on glossy or matte photo paper, then cut along the light outlines. Measure one photo with a ruler before you submit: it must be exactly 51×51 mm.
Frequently asked questions
Which size does Pakistan use — 2×2 or 35×45 mm?
Both exist. DGIP passport applications (offices and missions abroad) use the 2×2 inch photo this maker produces. The NADRA online portal for renewals asks for 35×45 mm. Check which route you are using before you print.
Can I wear a hijab in the photo?
Yes — religious head coverings are explicitly permitted, provided your full face from chin to forehead is visible and the covering casts no shadow on your face.
Are glasses allowed?
No. Remove glasses and sunglasses entirely; eyes must be open and free of glare.
Is acceptance guaranteed?
No tool can promise that. The download matches the DGIP size and head band; the passport office or NADRA makes the final decision. Verify the current specification on the official portal before you apply.
