At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini announced the upcoming launch of Crunchyroll Manga, a new digital manga application for iOS and Android devices. This app, slated for release in the United States and Canada later this year, will offer Crunchyroll premium subscribers access to a vast library of manga titles. Web browser integration is also planned. While specific publishers and titles remain unannounced, Purini described the app as a “premiere online manga app that carries catalogs from renowned publishers,” emphasizing its role in strengthening partnerships and enhancing the overall Crunchyroll membership experience. Current memberships already include access to a large anime library, the Crunchyroll Game Vault, and the Crunchyroll Store. Future plans include expanding the app to support other languages.
The announcement highlights the significant market demand for digital manga, with research indicating that nearly 70% of anime fans read digital manga at least monthly. Crunchyroll Manga aims to capitalize on this demand, further boosting the global popularity of both anime and manga. This isn’t Crunchyroll’s first foray into manga; a previous manga anthology service, operational from 2013 to 2023, offered simultaneous releases with Japan in 170 countries (excluding Japan, China, France, Germany, and Italy). While details on publishers and available titles for the new app remain undisclosed, Crunchyroll’s previous manga service featured works from publishers such as Futabasha, Kodansha, Kadokawa Shoten, and Shōnen Gahōsha. Further announcements are expected closer to the launch date.
