Daniel Craig to Receive London Critics’ Circle’s Dilys Powell Award

Celebrated actor Daniel Craig will be honored with the prestigious Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film by the London Critics’ Circle. The award will be presented at the organization’s 45th annual ceremony on February 2nd at London’s May Fair Hotel. Craig expressed his gratitude, stating, “This is such an immense honor and I’m incredibly grateful to the London Film Critics’ Circle.”

Rich Cline, chair of the Critics’ Circle Film Section, highlighted Craig’s long-standing relationship with the group, noting his prior recognition for roles in “The Mother” (2003) and “Enduring Love” (2004). Cline praised Craig’s “bold choices” throughout his career, a sentiment further underscored by his current nomination for the film “Queer.” The award recognizes Craig’s significant contributions to cinema, encompassing his iconic portrayal of James Bond in five films, from “Casino Royale” (2006) to “No Time to Die” (2021), as well as his recent work in “Glass Onion” and his upcoming role in “Wake Up Dead Man.” Past recipients of the Dilys Powell Award include notable figures such as Jeffrey Wright, Michelle Yeoh, Pedro Almodóvar, and Kate Winslet. The ceremony will be live-streamed on the Critics’ Circle YouTube channel.

Separately, the BBC comedy-drama “Boarders” has announced exciting additions to its cast for its second season. Alan Cumming (“The Traitors U.S.”) and Natalie Cassidy (“EastEnders”) will guest star in the upcoming season, debuting on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three in February. Cassidy will play Sharon Hail, a teacher at a rival school, while Cumming will portray Alan, a host whose high standards challenge the St. Gilbert’s students.

The BAFTA-nominated series, created by Daniel Lawrence Taylor, follows the experiences of five Black scholarship students at a prestigious British boarding school. Season two will also feature BAFTA-winner Wunmi Mosaku (“Loki”) as Jaheim’s mother, Grace, along with newcomers Cara Theobold (“Downton Abbey”) and Michael Salami (“Supacell”). Studio Lambert produces the series for the BBC in co-production with Tubi and ZDFneo. The first season is currently available on BBC iPlayer in the U.K. and Tubi in North America and Latin America.
