Rhyme Finder — Find Rhyming Words for Poems, Songs & Rap

Every poet, rapper and songwriter knows the moment: the line is perfect except for its last word, and nothing rhymes with it. This free rhyme finder searches the Datamuse word database live and gives you two lists for any English word — the perfect rhymes, whose ending sounds match exactly, and the near rhymes (slant rhymes) that share most of the sound and often save a verse a perfect rhyme cannot. Results arrive sorted by how strong the match is and grouped by syllable count, so a one-syllable punch and a three-syllable flow are never mixed together. No sign-up, no limit — type a word and write.

How the rhyme finder works

The tool sends your word to the Datamuse API, a word database built from dictionaries, pronunciation data and large text collections. It makes two requests: one for perfect rhymes — words whose sounds from the last stressed vowel to the end are identical, like love and dove — and one for near rhymes, which Datamuse finds by comparing pronunciations that differ slightly, like love and live. Each answer comes back with a match score and a syllable count; the tool sorts by score, removes duplicates between the two lists, and groups everything by syllables. Because the data is live and dictionary-based, multi-word gems sometimes appear among the results — a phrase that rhymes can be the most original line in the whole song.

How to use it

Type one English word — the word you need to rhyme with — and press Find rhymes. Start in the perfect-rhymes card: read down the group with the syllable count your line needs. If nothing fits the meaning, drop to the near rhymes: slant rhymes sound modern, and most hit songs lean on them heavily. If a word returns nothing, try its singular or base form (rhyme databases index dictionary forms), or rhyme a different word in the line and rearrange the sentence around it. The lists are also a study tool: grouping by syllables shows at a glance which rhymes keep your rhythm and which would break it.

Perfect rhymes vs near rhymes

A perfect rhyme matches the stressed vowel and everything after it: night/light, dream/stream. It sounds clean and final, which is why it anchors choruses and punchlines. A near rhyme only almost matches — night/mind, dream/deep — and that small mismatch is a feature, not a flaw: it keeps verses from sounding sing-song, and it multiplies your options tenfold. Professional writers move between the two constantly, saving perfect rhymes for the lines that must land hardest. This tool shows both lists together precisely so you can make that choice on purpose instead of settling for the first word that fits.

Rhyme Finder – frequently asked questions

Is the rhyme finder free?

Yes — free, unlimited and with no sign-up. The data comes from the Datamuse API, which is free for tools like this one.

Why did my word return no rhymes?

Some English words genuinely have no perfect rhyme (orange and purple are famous examples), and rare or misspelled words may be missing from the dictionary. Try the base form of the word, and check the near-rhyme list — for famous “unrhymable” words it is usually full of usable options.

Does it work for languages other than English?

No. Datamuse’s pronunciation data is English, so this finder rhymes English words. Spanish speakers writing in Spanish should use a Spanish rhyme dictionary instead — although this tool is perfect for English lyrics, poems and homework.

What do the scores mean?

Datamuse scores each match by strength — how close and how common the rhyme is. The tool simply sorts by that score, so the most usable rhymes float to the top of each syllable group.
