Some images should not be fully visible in a feed: a spoiler, a surprise announcement, or a product reveal. This tool builds that tease honestly. Upload your preview image, set a blur strength, and download a blurred copy plus a cloak page that carries the blurred image as its card preview and sends visitors to your destination when they click. Say this plainly, because it matters: the blur lives in the preview image itself, not on the platform. Facebook, X and WhatsApp show whatever image you give them; they do not blur images for you, so the blurred file is what makes the tease work.
How the two downloads work together
The blurred image is the teaser. Host it on your site, then host the cloak page on the same site and put the blurred image’s address in the page’s og:image tag, replacing YOUR-BLURRED-IMAGE-URL. When the page link is shared, the card shows the blurred image with your title and description. When a reader clicks, the page redirects to your destination after a short pause, and the link on the page works even if the redirect is blocked. The reveal is the click itself: nothing is hidden from the reader after they choose to visit.
Choosing a blur strength
Blur is measured in pixels here, from 0 to 40. Around 8 to 12 softens details while keeping colours and shapes recognisable, which suits a product tease. Around 20 hides faces and text but keeps the scene’s mood, which suits a spoiler warning. At 40 almost nothing is recognisable except broad colour blocks. Test the blurred image at the small size feeds actually show, because a blur that looks strong at full size can look weak in a thumbnail, and the reverse is also true.
Honest uses and one warning
Blur-to-reveal suits spoiler warnings, surprise launches, adults-only content warnings and anything where the reader should choose before seeing the full image. It does not hide anything from someone who wants the original: the destination page itself is public, and the blurred image is only a preview. Never use a blurred preview to disguise where a link actually goes; the cloak page in this tool shows the destination title and a working link, and misleading readers about a destination is exactly how accounts lose trust. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Spoiler etiquette and accessibility
A blurred image alone is not a complete spoiler warning. Some readers browse with images off, some use screen readers that read the card title aloud, and some see only the title in a notification. Put the warning in words too: start the card title or description with spoiler warning or a similar plain label, so the protection does not depend on the image at all. Keep the card text itself spoiler-free, because a blurred image next to a description that gives the twist away defeats the whole point. Consider readers with low vision as well: heavy blur plus low-contrast title text can make the card unreadable rather than intriguing, so keep the title in strong contrast against its background. Finally, do not blur content that should carry a stronger warning, such as graphic images; a blur is a courtesy for surprises, not a content warning, and readers deserve a clear text warning before they choose to reveal anything disturbing.
Testing the card before you share it
Before you post a blurred card widely, test it the way a reader will see it. Share the cloak page link to yourself in a private message or a test account, and look at the card on a phone, not just on a computer, because phone cards are smaller and blur that looks subtle on a monitor can vanish entirely on a small screen. Check that the title and description show correctly, that the blurred image loads, and that tapping the card reaches the destination you intended. If the platform shows an old cached image instead of your blurred one, that is a caching problem, not a tool problem: the platform stored the first image it saw, and its own debugger tool can refresh it. Run this test once per new card, and you will catch broken images, wrong titles and stale caches before your audience does, which is much cheaper than fixing a card after hundreds of people have already seen it.
