Beloved Wife, Mother, and Community Volunteer Remembered for Her Kindness and Generosity
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Helen J. (Johns) Demsko announces her passing on Tuesday, May 20, 2024, in her Spring Township residence surrounded by family.
A Life of Love and Service
Born in Baltimore, MD, to the late James and Eileen (Stokes) Johns, Helen lived a life filled with love, service, and dedication to her family and community.
Helen’s career began at Stewart’s Department Store in Baltimore, where she excelled as a fabric buyer for the renowned chain. Later, she joined Aetna Insurance and retired as a valued customer service representative.
After her retirement, Helen’s passion for giving back to others led her to volunteer for numerous charities, including the Rainbow House of Berks in HIV/AIDS Hospice. During a time when much was unknown about the disease, Helen provided unwavering support to those in need.
A Devoted Family Woman
Helen’s greatest joy in life was her family. She shared a beautiful 55-year marriage with her loving husband, Robert J. Demsko, whom she married in 1968.
Together, they raised three children: James Demsko of Reading, Robert Demsko and his wife, Jamie, of Wernersville, and Rebekah Graybill of Wernersville.
Helen cherished her four grandchildren: Jacquelyne, Alexis, Sydney, and Riley, and one great-grandchild, Luna.
A Legacy of Kindness and Compassion
Helen’s passing is a profound loss for her family, friends, and the community she touched. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, Helen’s family kindly requests donations to support two organizations that were close to her heart: Youth for Christ Metro MD (8900 Belair Rd, Baltimore MD 21236) and St. John’s Reformed Church (4001 W. Penn Ave, Sinking Spring PA 19608).
A memorial service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. John’s Reformed Church in Sinking Spring, PA. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.
