Teaching Assistant Task Delegation Board – Free TA Task Board, No Sign-Up

Teaching assistant work disappears into chat messages and verbal requests, and then nobody knows who is doing what. This free delegation board turns a pasted task list into a per-person board with open and done counts, so workload imbalances show up before burnout does. No sign-up.

What this tool does

Delegation fails on invisibility. A teacher who cannot see the whole task list keeps assigning to the most visible assistant, while quieter assistants sit idle and the visible one drowns. A board makes the distribution visible to everyone, including the teacher.

Grouping by person also reveals the real workload conversation: not “are you busy” but “you have four open tasks and Sam has one”. Numbers replace impressions, and rebalancing becomes a factual discussion instead of a negotiation.

Status counts add the time dimension. Open tasks are future work, done tasks are proof of progress, and a board where done counts grow is a morale tool as well as a management one.

How to use it

  1. Paste tasks as Task | Assignee | done or open, one per line.
  2. Click build board.
  3. Read open counts per person and rebalance overloads.
  4. Update the list as tasks complete and rebuild.

Use the words done and open exactly, or their Spanish equivalents, so the tool counts statuses correctly. Any other status word counts as open, which is the safe default.

Worked example

Sam has one open task, grading quizzes, and one done task, preparing slides. Alex has two open tasks, setting up the lab and answering emails. The board shows Sam at one open and Alex at two, so the next task goes to Sam.

A week later, the board shows Alex with five open tasks and Sam with none. The teacher reassigns two tasks before Alex burns out, instead of discovering the imbalance when Alex misses a deadline.

At term end, done counts document TA contributions for references and reviews. Sam completed twenty tasks, Alex eighteen, and both have evidence instead of vague praise.

Honest limits

This board runs in your browser and does not save or sync. It organizes a pasted list; it does not assign, notify, or track time. Keep the master list in a shared document and rebuild the board from it.

Tips

Review the board in a weekly five-minute meeting with TAs. Public, calm workload conversations prevent resentment far better than private reassignments that look like favoritism.

Common mistakes

The classic mistake is delegating tasks without deadlines or definitions of done. “Help with grading” is not a task; “Grade quizzes 1-3 by Friday, using the rubric” is. Vague delegation creates vague completion.

How it fits your week

Rebuild the board every Monday from the updated master list. Monday boards set the week fairly, while Friday boards only report what already went wrong.

Good delegation is visible delegation. When every task has a name, a status, and a count, assistants stop wondering whether their work is noticed, teachers stop overloading their favorites, and the course runs on a board instead of on memory. This tool supplies that visibility in seconds, from a list you already have. Paste the tasks, read the counts, rebalance kindly, and let the board carry the management load so you can carry the teaching.

FAQ

Can I track deadlines too?
Not in this board, which tracks person and status only. Put deadlines in the task text itself, such as “Grade quizzes by Friday”, so they stay visible beside the status.

What about unassigned tasks?
Tasks without an assignee group under Unassigned, which is itself useful: it shows the work nobody owns yet, waiting for a name.
