Fix yellow and blue colour casts by adjusting temperature and tint.
Fix Yellow and Blue Colour Casts in Your Photos
Have you ever taken a photo indoors that came out yellow, or a photo in shade that came out blue? That is a white balance problem. Your eyes adjust to different light automatically, but cameras often guess wrong. This tool corrects the cast by adjusting colour temperature and tint, entirely in your browser. Your photo never leaves your device: nothing is uploaded, stored, or seen by anyone else.
Light has a colour. Evening bulbs are warm and yellow. Open shade is cool and blue. A camera records the light as it is, so a white wall under a yellow bulb photographs yellow. White balance correction rebalances the red, green, and blue channels so that whites look white again, and every other colour falls back into place with them.
Temperature and Tint Explained
Temperature is the main control. Moving it toward warm adds red and removes blue, which fixes blue casts from shade and overcast skies. Moving it toward cool does the opposite, which fixes the yellow cast of indoor bulbs. The slider runs from minus one hundred to plus one hundred, with zero meaning no change.
Tint is the finer control. It shifts between green and magenta. Fluorescent lights often leave a green cast, and some skin tones pick up magenta under mixed lighting. Tint corrects those cases where temperature alone leaves the photo looking slightly off. Most photos need temperature only; reach for tint when the cast looks greenish or pinkish rather than yellow or blue.
Using the Tool
Choose a photo and look for something that should be white or grey: a wall, a shirt, a sheet of paper, snow. That reference tells you which way to move. If the white looks yellow, move temperature toward cool until it looks neutral. If it looks blue, move toward warm. Then press apply and compare with the original button.
The presets give you a head start. The tungsten preset cools a photo taken under household bulbs. The shade preset warms a photo taken in open shade. The magenta and green presets nudge tint for fluorescent problems. After choosing a preset, fine-tune with the sliders, because no two rooms have exactly the same light.
Judging the Result
Trust the whites, not your memory of the scene. Memory insists the room was cosier than it was, and that leads people to leave a yellow cast in place because it feels warm. Look at the whites and the skin tones. When whites are neutral and skin looks natural rather than orange or grey, the balance is right.
Check the whole photo, not just one corner. Mixed lighting is common: a room lit by both a window and a bulb has two different casts, and no single setting fixes both perfectly. In that case, balance for the subject’s face or the main area of interest, and accept a slight cast in the background. That is the same compromise professional editors make.
Common Situations
Indoor parties and restaurants are the classic yellow-cast case. The fix is a move toward cool, often further than feels natural at first. Beach and snow photos in shade go blue, and warming them restores the sand and snow to white. Office photos under fluorescent tubes often need a touch of magenta tint on top of a temperature move.
Sunset photos deserve care. A sunset is supposed to be warm, and correcting it to neutral can drain the very colour that made the photo beautiful. If the sunset itself looks right but people’s faces look orange, balance for the faces and let the sky stay warm. The goal is believable colour, not mathematically perfect white.
What White Balance Cannot Fix
White balance rebalances colour; it does not fix exposure. A photo that is far too dark or completely blown out will not be rescued by temperature sliders. It also cannot separate two light sources in one photo. For those problems, adjust exposure first, then balance, then judge the result as a whole.
The tool is free, needs no account, and runs on any device with a browser. Upload a photo, move temperature and tint until the whites look right, compare with the original, and download the corrected version. Your photo stays private throughout.
