In Memoriam: Harry Franklin Roof, A Life Well Lived
Antioch, IL – It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Harry Franklin Roof, a cherished member of our community who passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the age of 81.
A Life’s Journey
Harry’s life began on December 29, 1942, in Italy, where he spent his early years before immigrating to the United States in 1948. His family settled in Highwood, Illinois, where he grew up and laid the foundation for his future.
Years later, Harry relocated to Highland Park, Illinois, where he established a home and raised a family. In 2004, he found a new home in Antioch, where he spent the remainder of his days.
A Proud Marine and Dedicated Employee
Harry served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps. After completing his tour of duty, he embarked on a fulfilling career at Commonwealth Edison, where he dedicated many years as a lineman, troubleman, and trainer.
Community Involvement and Passions
Harry embraced his community by actively participating in various organizations. He was a former member of St. James Catholic Church and the VFW Post 4737 in Highwood, Illinois.
Beyond his community involvement, Harry nurtured a diverse range of passions. He was an avid model train enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, and immersed himself in the world of literature. Car shows sparked a particular joy in him, as did spending quality time with his cherished family.
A Simple Life, Well Lived
Harry’s philosophy in life was centered around simplicity and contentment. He found pleasure in the simple things, valuing good food, camaraderie, and the love of his family.
Loved and Remembered
Harry Franklin Roof leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and cherished memories. He is survived by his two loving daughters, Theresa (Bruce) Dade and Michelle (Vladimir) Roman. His grandchildren, Kelsey Renee Roman, Kaci Morgan Thompson, Brandon Anthony Dade, and Delmar (Rachel) Dade, will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
Harry is also survived by his siblings, Frances Bernardi and Kenneth (Beth) Roof, as well as nieces and nephew, Jennifer, Bradley, Julie, and Patty. Their memories of him will be a constant source of comfort.
Private Interment and Lasting Tribute
Harry Franklin Roof’s final resting place will be in Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Illinois. His family and friends will gather for a private interment to honor his life and legacy.
