Obituary: Jean Pauline (Lord) Andreasen: A Life of Accomplishment and Adventure
Jean Pauline (Lord) Andreasen, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at the age of 87. Born in Presque Isle, Maine on November 15, 1936, Jean lived a life filled with purpose, passion, and unwavering love for her family and community.
A Lifetime of Accomplishments
Jean was a woman of remarkable accomplishment. She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1955 and went on to earn a degree in Nursing from Maine Medical Center’s School of Nursing in 1958. Driven by her desire to make a difference, Jean returned to college later in life to earn a BS with honors in Community Health Education from the University of Maine at Farmington in 1984.
Jean’s professional pursuits were marked by her dedication to serving others. As a nurse, she provided compassionate care to countless patients. She later used her nursing skills as a Public Health Nurse and volunteered with hospice, offering comfort and support to those in their final days.
A Passion for Adventure
Beyond her professional achievements, Jean’s true passion lay in the great outdoors. She was an avid mountain hiker, cross-country skier, sea kayaker, and camper. Along with her beloved husband, Clifford “Clif” Andreasen, Jean founded the Sea & Mountain Outing Club, a group that shared her love of adventure and camaraderie.
Together, Jean and Clif embarked on countless outdoor excursions, exploring the rugged peaks of Maine and beyond. Jean’s indomitable spirit was evident on every trail she conquered, leaving an inspiration to all who knew her.
A Creative and Community-Minded Spirit
Jean’s creativity knew no bounds. She was a skilled seamstress, fashioning beautiful garments and intricate baskets. She shared her passion for sewing with others, teaching free basket making classes in her home.
Jean was deeply involved in her community. She volunteered her time with Scouting, the Kennebec County Community Emergency Response Team, and other organizations. Her dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others was unwavering.
A Legacy of Love and Adventure
Jean’s greatest joy was her family. She and Clif raised three children, Valerie Jean, Scott Clifford, and Christian Lee, instilling in them their love of nature and adventure. Jean cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showering them with love and laughter.
Jean Pauline (Lord) Andreasen’s legacy will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her unwavering spirit, her love of adventure, and her dedication to serving others will forever serve as a reminder of the remarkable life she lived.
Visitation and Celebration of Life
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta, from 4-7 p.m. A celebration of Jean’s life will take place on Tuesday, June 11, at Granite Hill Church, Town Farm Road, Hallowell, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
