Emery A. Sowieja, 98, of Farmington, Passes Away Peacefully

Emery A. Sowieja, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2024. He was 98 years old.

Emery was born on February 18, 1926, in Farmington, Minnesota, to John and Anna Sowieja. He grew up on the family farm and attended the local schools. After graduating from high school, Emery served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

After the war, Emery returned to Farmington and married Darlene Pederson on June 10, 1949. The couple had five children: Steve, Gary, Jan, Greg, and Dave. Emery and Darlene were married for 65 years until her passing in 2014.

Emery worked as a carpenter for many years and was a member of the Carpenters’ Union. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. Emery was a devout Catholic and a member of the Church of St. Michael in Farmington.

Emery was a kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was a great friend to many. Emery will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Service

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on June 12, 2024, at the Church of St. Michael in Farmington, Minnesota. A visitation will be held at the church starting at 10:00 AM.

Interment

Emery will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
