Denis Arthur Bossetti: A Life of Sports, Education, and Family
Early Life and Education
Denis Arthur Bossetti was born on March 31, 1948, in Salinas, California, to parents Art and Thelma Bossetti. He spent his childhood in Gonzales, California, where he developed a passion for sports from a young age.
Bossetti excelled in football, basketball, and baseball at Gonzales High School, where he was named Most Valuable Athlete. After graduating, he continued his athletic career at Hartnell College, helping the team win the 1967 State Championship. The Hartnell team was later inducted into the College’s Hall of Fame.
Bossetti furthered his education at Chico State, earning a Bachelor’s degree while playing football for the Wildcats. He later obtained a Master’s degree from San Jose State.
Career as an Educator and Coach
Bossetti dedicated over three decades of his career to the field of education. He served as a teacher, coach, and school administrator, inspiring countless students and athletes.
He held teaching positions in Salinas, Gonzales, and Chico, while also coaching football, basketball, and baseball. Bossetti’s passion for sports extended beyond the classroom, as he actively officiated basketball games and umpired baseball.
Family and Personal Life
In 1973, Bossetti married Wendy Whalen, with whom he shared a long and fulfilling life together. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
He was a devoted father to Patrick (Sheila) Bossetti and Camille (West) Upton, and a loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Austin, Maddison, Phillip Bossetti, Emma, and Jax Upton.
In addition to his immediate family, Bossetti had a close relationship with his father-in-law, Edward Whalen, and numerous cousins, including Deann Kinnear, Paul (Kerry) Panighetti, Gary (deceased) and (Camille) Panighetti, and Gabriela (Bill) Borchard.
Later Life and Legacy
In his later years, Bossetti enjoyed golfing, playing poker, and spending time with family and friends. He passed away on May 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, sportsmanship, and dedication to his community.
Funeral services for Denis Bossetti will be held on June 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s the Baptist Catholic Church in Chico, California. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to charities that support education, athletics, or healthcare.
