It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest “Ernie” James Farina, 76, a beloved husband, father, and friend who departed this world on June 7, 2024, at his Muhlenberg Park home. Ernie’s unwavering determination and infectious spirit inspired all who knew him as he bravely faced the challenges of ALS.

A Cherished Husband and Father

Ernie’s life revolved around his cherished family. He married the love of his life, Dale Ann (Hendricks) Farina, on October 2, 1982, and their 41-year journey was filled with unwavering love and support. Together, they raised two sons, Kyle A., who resides in Orlando, FL, and Tyler J., who resides in Winter Garden, FL, with his wife, Peyton J. Ernie was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first grandson, a testament to his deep love for his family.

A Proud and Dedicated Veteran

Ernie served honorably in the U.S. Army, where he honed his skills as a rifle marksman. During his time in service, he forged an unbreakable bond with Nolan Ryan, the legendary baseball pitcher, who became a lifelong friend. Ernie’s unwavering patriotism and service to his country remained a source of immense pride throughout his life.

A Passion for Life

When Ernie wasn’t spending precious time with his family, he reveled in pursuing his passions. He was an avid NASCAR fan and relished the excitement of attending races with his loved ones. As an ardent supporter of Penn State football, he cheered on his Nittany Lions with unwavering enthusiasm. Ernie also had a deep love for music, and his favorite bands always brought a smile to his face.

A Cherished Friend and Community Member

Ernie’s infectious laughter and genuine warmth made him a beloved friend to many. He was an active member of the “Hillside Hillbillies” at Hillside Pool in Reading, a group of friends that remained close to his heart until the very end. Ernie’s unwavering spirit and love for his community enriched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Legacy of Love and Remembrance

Ernest “Ernie” James Farina will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His family and friends will cherish the memories of his unwavering love, infectious laugh, and unwavering determination. Ernie’s legacy will live on through his beloved family and the countless lives he touched throughout his earthly journey.

Funeral Arrangements

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in honor of Ernie on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Guardian Angels RCC (3121 Kutztown Road, Reading). The interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11:15 a.m. at the church prior to the Mass.
