Early Life and Military Service
Steven was born into a loving family in Cullman, Alabama, on [Date of Birth]. His parents, Earnest Roy Cupp Jr. and Alesia Chandler Cupp, instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the beauty of his surroundings.
After graduating high school, Steven enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard, where he served his country with honor and dedication. His commitment to duty and discipline shaped his character and prepared him for the challenges and triumphs that lay ahead.
A Master Craftsman
Upon completing his military service, Steven embarked on a lifelong career as a custom home builder. He established himself as a true master of his craft, earning the moniker “The Legend” among his peers. For over five decades, he crafted stunning homes on the shores of Smith Lake, a testament to his exceptional skill and artistry.
Steven’s passion for his work was evident in every project he undertook. He meticulously sawmilled his own wood, using different varieties to create one-of-a-kind pieces. From tables and mantles to beams, columns, and balusters, each element of his creations bore the mark of his artistry.
“People called him ‘The Legend’ for good reason,” said close friend and fellow builder John Smith. “His attention to detail and his ability to turn any design into reality were truly remarkable.”
A Devoted Family Man

“Dad was not just a builder, he was a builder of memories,” said his daughter, Brandy. “He always had time for us, whether it was helping with a school project or taking us on fishing trips. He taught us the value of hard work and the importance of cherishing the people we love.”
A Legacy of Love and Service
Steven Cupp leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond the beautiful homes he built. His love for his family, his dedication to his craft, and his commitment to service will continue to inspire generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the UAB Center for Palliative and Comfort Care, an organization dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care.
A visitation for Steven will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest in Good Hope Cemetery, where he will join his ancestors who have gone before him.
The entire Cullman community mourns the loss of a true icon and a remarkable human being. Steven Roy Cupp’s spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created.
