Morrisville, Vermont – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas H. Conant, a beloved father, grandfather, and pillar of his community. Doug passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family.
Early Life and Marriage
Doug was born on August 30, 1939, in Sumner, Maine, to Leon and Florence Conant. He grew up in a close-knit family and attended local schools. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Caroline Poland, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and laughter.
Career and Retirement
Doug dedicated over 25 years of his life to the Maine Department of Transportation. His hard work and dedication earned him the respect of his colleagues and the community. Upon his retirement in 1993, he embarked on a new venture as the owner of D&D Auto Sales, where he enjoyed selling used cars and attending auctions.
An Active and Fulfilling Retirement
Retirement provided Doug with the opportunity to pursue his passions. He loved spending time outdoors, whether he was hunting, camping, biking, or simply taking long walks. He also enjoyed tinkering around his garage and spending quality time with his family.
A Family Man at Heart
Doug’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband to Caroline for over 59 years. He cherished his children, Douglas and Deborah, and adored his grandchildren, Bradley, Katlyn, Payton, and Adriana. His great-grandchildren, Autumn, Harold, and Delilah, brought him immense joy in his later years.

Doug will be remembered for his infectious smile, his kind heart, and his unwavering love for his family. He lived a life filled with purpose and meaning, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Memorial Service
A memorial service to celebrate Doug’s life will be held on August 11, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Lakes Christian Fellowship in Belgrade, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Doug’s memory.
