Joan Weening
Joan Weening passed away on December 14, 2024. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Jr., of Sun City Center, where they spent 29 years together; her son, James III, and daughter-in-law, Keeley, of Bristol, Vermont, who provided loving care until the end; and five grandchildren: Addison of Bristol, VT; Allison of Hendersonville, NC; Thomas of South Burlington, VT; James IV of Bristol, VT; and Kellie (and husband Killian) of Savannah, GA. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas, of Williston, VT, in 2016. Joan also leaves behind cherished nephews Charles Breiner of Ohio and Fred Fiorello of New York; great-nieces Miriam Napolitano of Georgia and Stephanie Napolitano of Vermont; and her adopted nephew, Brian Gambero of Milton, Vermont.
Throughout her life, Joan enjoyed many close friendships, including Brigitte, Sue, and Kathy in Florida; and Dick and Carol in Vermont. She also considered several dear friends as her “adopted sons,” holding a special place in her heart for Mike Patno, John and Tom Morrie of Vermont, and Dave Shuttleworth of Florida. She was actively involved in her community, serving on the boards of both the Irish Connection Group and the South Bay Genealogy Group. Joan graduated from Brooklyn College in Brooklyn, NY, and was raised in Canarsie, NY. Her family and friends were her greatest joys.
Services for Joan will be held at Sun City Center Funeral Home, 1851 Rickenbacker Drive, Sun City Center, FL 33573, from 10 to 11 a.m. on January 6, 2025, with burial to follow at Sarasota VA Cemetery, 9810 State Rd. 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
Karen Louise Jones
Karen Louise Jones passed away on November 27, 2024, following a short illness. Born September 2, 1943, in Paris, Texas, she was the eldest child of Marjorie Ellen (Page) and Merwin Miller Jones. Karen is survived by her siblings: Eric (Lorena), Barbara (Richard Cain), Stephen (Sylvia), Pamela (Robert Wiebusch), Peter, and Robin (Frederick Scott); and numerous nieces and nephews, including Holly Yardley, Eric Jones (Kathy), Erica (James Lozouski), Richard Cain Jr., Joshua Cain (Jill Lipski Cain), Jesse Cain (Molly Page Cain), Stephen Jones (Beverly), Jason Wiebusch (Drinda), Monica (Dan Shelton), Christina Sheldon, Linda (Kenneth Matthews), Joshua Scott, Vanessa Scott, and Mary (Tim Stern), as well as over two dozen grandnieces and grandnephews.
Karen graduated from Nottingham High School in Syracuse, New York; earned a BA at SUNY Brockport, NY; and completed an MS at Ithaca College, NY. She was a dedicated physical education instructor and coach, holding positions at Phelps-Clifton Springs School District, NY (1965-72); Cazenovia College, NY (1975-76); Gannon University, Erie, PA (1976-80); and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, AK (1980-2001), where she served as assistant athletic director and Women’s Volleyball coach. She also wrote a “Girl’s Sports Column” for the Geneva Times (1972-74) and was a highly accomplished athlete herself, winning the Alaska State Women’s Golf Amateur Championship in 1982 and being inducted into the Fairbanks Golf Association Hall of Fame in 1998. After retiring, she moved to Sun City Center, FL, becoming involved in the golfing community and holding leadership positions at Summerfield Crossing Golf Club.
Karen’s ashes will be interred at the Jacksonville Rural Cemetery, Lysander, NY, in the spring of 2025. A celebration of life will be held at that time for family and friends. For notification, please leave contact information on Karen’s Legacy page.
Seth A. Reingold
Seth A. Reingold, born May 28, 1978, passed away at age 46 on November 26, 2024, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and lived there with his family for 18 years before traveling extensively throughout the United States for nearly 30 years. Seth is survived by his parents, residing in Florida, and two brothers in the Chicago area. A memorial service will be held at Beth Israel of Sun City Center, Florida.
Elaine Cosgrove Humphreys
Elaine Cosgrove Humphreys, beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2024, in her Sun Towers apartment under hospice care. Born December 19, 1925, in Malone, NY, she was the daughter of James and Helen Parker Cosgrove. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and daughter, Joan Humphreys of New York City. She is survived by her daughter, Karen, of Sun City Center; grandson, Samuel Ettorre, of New York City; brother, James, and sister-in-law, Mary Ann, of Sun City Center; and Carol McCarten of Daytona Beach.
Elaine had a successful career as a dental hygienist, graduating from Eastman Dental School in Rochester, NY. She married Robert (Bob) Humphreys in 1950, and their marriage lasted 55 years until his death in 2006. They lived in several states, including New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, where they raised their two children. In Erie, PA, she also worked as a jewelry expert at Dahlkemper’s Catalog Showroom. She was active in her community, enjoyed bowling, and pursued various crafts. After retiring to Sun City Center, FL, in 1987, she took up golf and bridge. Elaine was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and dedicated her time to volunteering.
Funeral Mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 702 Valley Forge Blvd., Sun City Center, FL, on January 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. The service will be live-streamed on the Prince of Peace website at popcc.org. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Renaissance Club, 2121 S. Pebble Beach Drive, Sun City Center, FL (light appetizers).
