South Alabama received its first transfer portal commitment of the 2025 recruiting cycle on Wednesday. Brendan Jenkins, a wide receiver from Samford University, announced his decision via Twitter. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Jenkins had a productive two-season career with the Bulldogs, recording 89 receptions for 888 yards and seven touchdowns. His accomplishments included being named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023. A native of Hoschton, Georgia, Jenkins has two years of eligibility remaining.
This commitment addresses a significant need for the Jaguars. South Alabama is losing four of its top five receivers from the 2024 season to graduation: first-team All-Sun Belt selection Jamaal Pritchett, Salute to Veterans Bowl MVP Jeremiah Webb, tight end DJ Thomas-Jones, and Shamar Sandgren. While Sandgren’s return for another season is a possibility following a recent NCAA ruling concerning former junior-college transfers, the team still faces a substantial gap in receiving talent.
Returning players include Devin Voisin, expected back for a seventh year after receiving a medical redshirt; Anthony Eager; Keyshawn Woodyard; and several less experienced receivers such as Micah Woods, Noah Toster, Jeremy Scott, and Jerrian Graham.
South Alabama anticipates adding more players from the transfer portal before spring semester classes begin on January 13. The transfer portal window closes for new entries on December 28, but players already in the portal can commit to a new school at any time after that date.
