WEATHER ALERT
Pearland Man Loses Home and Prosthetic Leg in Christmas Eve Fire
PEARLAND, Texas – A Pearland man is facing yet another setback after a fire destroyed his RV, which served as his home, on Christmas Eve. Troy Davis, who has overcome numerous hardships in recent years, lost everything in the blaze, including his recently acquired prosthetic leg.
Davis lived in the RV parked outside his late mother’s home on Louise Lane. The house itself was already uninhabitable, having been severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017. On Friday morning, a fire ignited in the RV, quickly spreading to the house and consuming both structures.
“I was out in the shop working on a go-cart,” Davis told KPRC 2’s Gage Goulding. “My friend noticed the smoke and alerted me.” By the time Davis arrived, the RV was engulfed in flames. The fire, fueled by the RV’s connection to the damaged house’s electrical system, rapidly destroyed what remained of his mother’s home as well.
This latest tragedy is only the most recent in a long line of hardships for Davis. In 2009, a motorcycle accident left him hospitalized for a month and confined to a wheelchair for over a decade due to severe leg injuries. Last year, after years of chronic pain and infection, he underwent a leg amputation.
Remarkably, Davis viewed the amputation as a positive turning point. “It was the best thing that ever happened to me,” he said, explaining that the surgery finally relieved years of excruciating pain. Last July, he received a prosthetic leg, costing $33,000, allowing him to walk again for the first time in 15 years.
Tragically, that prosthetic leg was lost in the fire. Despite this devastating loss, Davis remains remarkably resilient. “Each one of these things has strengthened me,” he stated. He sees this latest setback as a “speed bump” rather than an insurmountable obstacle, emphasizing his unwavering hope and determination.
Davis’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist him during this difficult time. The link can be found here: [Insert GoFundMe Link Here].
