A Christmas Eve shooting in Hoover, Alabama, resulted in the city’s first homicide in over two years. Hoover police responded to a 911 call at 10:59 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24th, at an apartment in the 2200 block of Rime Village Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 35-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of police and firefighters to administer life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at UAB Hospital. Lieutenant Daniel Lowe stated that a 29-year-old male suspect, known to the victim, was apprehended at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that a physical altercation occurred between the suspect and victim inside the apartment, culminating in the suspect firing a weapon and striking the victim multiple times.
The motive for the shooting remains undisclosed, and the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family. Detectives are compiling evidence to present to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of charges against the suspect.
