This week’s MTA Hero is Edward Kircher, a bus operator from the JFK bus depot in Queens. While driving a Q7 bus, Kircher noticed a young child traveling alone and a man attempting to give the child money and entice him off the bus. Quickly reacting, Kircher confronted the man, who subsequently fled. Kircher then ensured the child was safely reunited with his mother. A father himself, Kircher says he consistently keeps a watchful eye on his passengers, particularly children. He’s been with the MTA for seven years and finds the most rewarding aspect of his job is interacting with his customers, whom he treats like family.
