Alabama Tornado Sunday?
The National Weather Service (NWS) will conduct a damage survey in west Alabama on Monday to assess the impact of Sunday night’s severe storms. These storms prompted a tornado warning, with the Birmingham NWS office detecting a tornado debris signature (TDS) on radar, indicating debris being lofted into the air by a powerful storm. The survey results are expected later today.

If a tornado is confirmed, the NWS will assign a preliminary rating using the Enhanced Fujita Scale (EF0-EF5), classifying the tornado’s intensity based on wind speed and damage.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham NWS has updated its count of tornadoes from the December 28-29 severe weather event. Three additional tornadoes have been confirmed in Greene, Hale, and Chilton counties, bringing the total number of tornadoes in central Alabama to 18. Including those in south (7) and north (1) Alabama, the state experienced a total of 26 tornadoes during this period.
