Alexander Kent Zell, affectionately known as Alex, left an enduring legacy as a devoted minister and educator. His sudden passing on May 21, 2024, in Minot, North Dakota, at the age of 60, has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, colleagues, and students.
Born on July 25, 1963, in Seattle, Washington, Alex spent his formative years in Toledo, Ohio. His passion for ministry and education became evident early on. He graduated from Emmanuel Baptist High School and went on to pursue higher education.
Ordained to Serve
Alex’s unwavering faith led him to pursue a career in ministry. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Toccoa Falls College in Georgia, a Master of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in New York, and his Ph.D. from Trinity International University in Illinois.
As an ordained minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance, Alex served God and his fellow humans in both the United States and Brazil. He dedicated his life to spreading the message of love and compassion, touching countless lives along the way.
A Passion for Education
Alex’s commitment to education extended beyond his ministerial work. He became the Program Director of Online Christian Studies at Crown College in Minnesota in 2017. In this role, he played a pivotal part in shaping the lives of students seeking to deepen their understanding of Christian faith and ministry.
Alex’s academic achievements were not limited to his own education. He actively mentored students, providing guidance and support as they navigated their academic and spiritual journeys.
A Loving Family Man
Alex was a devoted husband to Julie Kingsbury, whom he married in 1989. Together, they raised three daughters: Melissa, Jodi, and Linsey. He cherished his role as a father and grandfather, providing unwavering love and support to his family.
Alex’s warmth and kindness extended beyond his immediate family. He had a gift for making connections with people from all walks of life. His infectious smile and genuine compassion left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Alex’s legacy will continue to inspire countless individuals. His unwavering faith, dedication to service, and passion for education have left an indelible mark on the world.

Obituary and Memorial Service
The funeral service for Alexander Kent Zell will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at 2 PM at Crown College (chapel), located at 8700 College View Dr., Saint Bonifacius, MN. Visitation will begin at 1 PM.
A Celebration of Life will be hosted on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 2 PM at First Alliance Church, located at 2201 Monroe St, Toledo, OH 43604. Those who knew and loved Alex are encouraged to attend and share their memories.
