Alvin, Texas – Walt Disney Elementary School in Alvin Independent School District (AISD) sustained significant roof damage during Saturday’s severe weather. An EF-2 tornado, one of six confirmed across Texas, caused the worst damage in Brazoria County. The tornado touched down near County Road 172, traveling approximately 8.8 miles towards the eastern edge of Hillcrest. Tragically, one person died and several others were injured as a result of the storm.
AISD officials expressed relief that all students and staff were safe, as they were not on campus during the storm. However, the damage to the school is substantial. In a statement, the Alvin ISD Education Foundation said, “While this news breaks our hearts, we are incredibly thankful that all children and staff were safe and not on campus during the storm. As we work toward recovery, we are asking for your support. Many of our educators have lost individual teaching materials that they’ve lovingly gathered over the years to inspire and educate their students.”
The district is appealing to the public for donations to help educators replace lost materials and rebuild their classrooms. To contribute, please click here.
