Over the last several days, Andi Dorfman experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. First, the joy of welcoming her and husband Blaine Hart’s first child, a daughter, on December 20th. She shared the happy news on Instagram, describing the “28 hours of labor” that culminated in their “party of three.”
Less than a week later, however, Dorfman found herself back in the hospital. She underwent surgery to remove hematomas, collections of blood outside blood vessels. Taking to her Instagram Stories on December 27th, she explained that postpartum pain, worsening daily, prompted her to seek medical attention despite initial attempts at home remedies. Doctors quickly diagnosed the hematomas as the source of her discomfort, leading to emergency surgery.
The 37-year-old described the procedure as “straightforward” but “terrifying,” especially with a six-day-old baby and lingering hormonal effects. She candidly admitted to feeling guilt about focusing on her own health, but ultimately recognized the importance of self-care for the well-being of her daughter. “She’s no good if I’m no good,” she wisely observed.
Dorfman shared a valuable lesson learned from this experience: “No matter how clueless you are about motherhood,” she wrote, “you still know your body best! Listen to it! Yes, recovery is tough and everyone is different but your instincts are valid (and probably right).”
Previously, Dorfman and Hart had introduced their daughter, Harper Bell Hart, to the world on December 22nd with an adorable family photo. They shared her birth weight and length, expressing overwhelming love and gratitude for their new addition. They thanked well-wishers and described the experience as receiving “the best gift we have ever received.”
