Arjun's Release: Police Chief Speaks Out

Telangana’s Prison Director General, Soumya Mishra, addressed the controversy surrounding actor Allu Arjun’s release from Chanchalguda Jail following his arrest related to the Sandhya Theatre stampede during the *Pushpa 2* release. Mishra unequivocally stated that the actor’s exit through the prison’s back gate adhered to established security protocols, refuting claims of preferential treatment. This clarification follows widespread public debate and speculation surrounding the incident.

The stampede itself, resulting in injuries to several individuals, sparked significant political and public discourse. Allu Arjun’s arrest and subsequent release became a focal point of discussions across media and political platforms, further intensifying scrutiny of the entire affair.

During the release of the annual prison report, Mishra also highlighted the department’s accomplishments in 2024. These achievements included the resolution of 1,045 cases through Jail Adalats, providing inmates with expedited access to justice. Furthermore, 2,650 inmates participated in skill development programs aimed at rehabilitation and reintegration into society. A significant number of prisoners also pursued educational opportunities, with 750 completing undergraduate degrees and 225 earning postgraduate qualifications. These programs, according to Mishra, are designed to empower inmates with the tools necessary for a successful life after release.

Further demonstrating a commitment to rehabilitation, 213 inmates with exemplary conduct were released, and eight received bank loans to facilitate entrepreneurial ventures. The establishment of prison-based industries, including tailoring, printing, and bakeries, provides both vocational training and contributes to the production of household goods. An additional 29 retail outlets, established in partnership with national oil companies, offer further employment opportunities for inmates upon release. The department also emphasizes sustainability, implementing eco-friendly practices and eliminating the use of plastic within prison facilities.

Mishra also acknowledged government recognition of the department’s initiatives, including an award for a prison stall at the Numaish exhibition, and announced plans for the repair and upgrade of prison facilities across Telangana to improve living conditions and operational efficiency. The Sandhya Theatre incident and its aftermath, including Allu Arjun’s arrest and release, continue to be a subject of political debate, with the Congress party calling for an impartial investigation.
