Auburn Lands Transfer DE from Sam Houston State

Auburn football bolstered its defensive line on Sunday night with the commitment of Chris Murray, a seasoned defensive end transferring from Sam Houston State. Murray, who announced his decision via social media, selected the Tigers over Florida State. His commitment is a significant boost for Auburn’s defensive front, adding experience and depth to the roster.

The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Murray had a productive 2024 season at Sam Houston State, recording 35 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Pro Football Focus further highlights his impact, crediting him with 34 quarterback pressures. Before his time at Sam Houston State, Murray began his collegiate career at TCU.

Murray’s addition is particularly valuable given the departure of Jalen McLeod. He will join a relatively deep group of defensive ends at Auburn, including returning players Keyron Crawford and Jamonta Waller, as well as true freshman Jared Smith. This influx of talent and experience strengthens Auburn’s defensive line heading into the upcoming season.
