A Life Dedicated to Teaching and Inspiring

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, the community mourned the peaceful passing of Barbara R. Trimmer, a beloved elementary school teacher who dedicated her life to educating and inspiring countless young minds.

Barbara’s journey began in Greeley, Colorado, on April 6, 1938. Born to Fred and Barbara Weber, she attended the University of Northern Colorado Lab School, where she excelled in her studies and developed a lifelong passion for learning.

During her time at the university, Barbara met the love of her life, Richard Trimmer, on a blind date. They married in 1958 and shared 64 years of love and companionship.

A Remarkable Career in Education

Barbara embarked on an exceptional career in elementary education, teaching in Weld County, Colorado, and later in Boulder, Colorado, and Phoenix, Arizona. She received accolades for her outstanding teaching skills, including being recognized twice as an outstanding primary teacher in Arizona.

In 1967, Barbara and Richard welcomed their son, Jeffrey, to the world. They soon relocated to Chico, where Richard took a coaching and teaching position at the university and Barbara became a beloved first-grade teacher at Jay Partridge Elementary.

For over 30 years, Barbara left an unforgettable impact on the lives of her students. Her innovative teaching methods incorporated music, science, art, and technology. She had a knack for connecting with children and making learning fun and engaging.

A Legacy of Kindness and Generosity

After retiring from teaching, Barbara’s unwavering commitment to serving others continued. She knitted countless blankets and sweaters for family and friends, and never missed the opportunity to send thoughtful cards and gifts for every occasion.

Barbara’s greatest joy was her family, especially her three grandsons, Carson, Mitchell, and Brooks. She cherished every moment she spent with them and supported their passions with unwavering enthusiasm.

A Celebration of Life

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 10, 2024, at 10 am at Holy Trinity Church in Chico. The family encourages attendees to wear bright colors to honor Barbara’s vibrant spirit.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the nonprofit literacy program Reading Pals Chico, a cause that was close to Barbara’s heart.

Remembered with Love and Gratitude

Barbara R. Trimmer will be deeply missed by her beloved husband, Richard; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Mindi Trimmer; grandsons Carson, Mitchell, and Brooks; brother, Fred Weber; and a multitude of family, friends, and former students.
