Barbara S. (Schlegel) Miller, 98, of Wyomissing, formerly of Fleetwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024, at The Highlands of Wyomissing.

Early Life and Education

  • Born on October 25, 1925, in Reading Hospital to Alfred and Elda (Schaeffer) Schlegel.
  • Graduated from Fleetwood High School.
  • Received a Bachelor of Science in medical technology from Moravian College.

Career and Family Life

  • Worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Reading for two years.
  • Married Kenneth W. Miller on September 10, 1949.
  • Moved to Fleetwood after her husband completed dental school, where she became a housewife and raised their three sons.

Community Involvement

  • Active member of the Women’s Club of Fleetwood, serving as chair of various committees and president.
  • Instrumental in starting a community recycling program.

Church Involvement

  • Sang in the choir at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years.
  • Taught in and was superintendent of the Sunday School and Bible School.

Later Years

  • Moved to The Highlands of Wyomissing with her husband.
  • Sang in the chorus at The Highlands for many years.
  • Volunteered in various ways at The Highlands.

Survivors

  • Sons: Martin F. Miller, Thomas A. Miller, and Peter W. Miller.
  • Grandchildren: Taryn Miller, Leslie Christman, Emily Miller, Jessica Miller, Stephanie Miller, Sarah Miller, Matthew Spilker, Nicole Martin, and Bradley Spilker.
  • Great-grandchildren: Ella, Chase, Clare, Delaney, Madison, Jackson, Kennadi, Finn, Brooklyn, Ashlyn, and Robert.
  • Sister: Mary Jane Schofer.

Preceded in Death

  • Husband: Dr. Kenneth W. Miller (January 18, 2018).
  • Brother: Frederick Schlegel.
  • Sisters: Lillian Walter, Julia Clemons, and Emma Webb.

Memorial Services

  • Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 11:00 am at The Highlands at Wyomissing.
  • Visitation from 10-11 am at The Highlands.

Inurnment

  • Private inurnment in the St. Paul’s Union Church Memorial Columbarium, Fleetwood.
