In an interview with Hindustan Times, Bhansali said that Segal “kept saying, ‘Mama, I’ll underplay.’ I said, ‘Underplay? Are you thinking I’m going to ask you to overplay?”

He went on to say that “I know that they (the new generation of actors) love me as much. I can see it in the way (they ask me), ‘Are you happy? Should we do one more take? Can we do it one more time? Are you okay? I can see that love in their eyes. Now that’s very rare.”

In ‘Heeramandi’, Segal plays the role of Alamzeb, the daughter of Heeramandi’s brothel madam Mallikajaan, played by Manisha Koirala.

The series, which is set in the pre-independence era, follows the lives of the courtesans of Heeramandi, a red-light district in Lahore.

The series has been praised for its lavish production values, strong performances, and sensitive portrayal of the courtesans’ lives.
