Catherine B. Carr Obituary

Catherine B. Carr, age 85, of Friendship, New York, passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Olean General Hospital.

Born on Independence Day in 1938 in Carthage, Catherine was the beloved daughter of William Bishop and Helen R. Cheeseman. Her life was a tapestry of devotion, marked by her marriage to Gary Carr on September 9, 1975, in Churchville—a union that stood the test of time.

Catherine’s professional journey included valuable contributions to French’s in Rochester, followed by a fulfilling career at Kodak, from which she retired. In her golden years, she cherished the tranquility of Friendship alongside her husband.

A faithful member of Our Lady of Angels Church in Cuba, Catherine’s spirit was as adventurous as it was pious; she relished in travels with her daughter, Mary Ellen.

Her legacy of love and resilience lives on through her husband, Gary of the Wellsville Manor; her children, Julie (Steven) Hawkins of Arizona, Julie Ann Carr of Buffalo, Cindy Mungillo of Brockport, and Kenneth Carr; her son-in-law, Doy McPhail; her sister, Alice (James) Millspaugh of Laconia, N.H.; her dear friends, Cindy and Ted Whitcher and Shannon and Desi Davis; along with several cherished nieces and nephews.

Catherine was greeted in heaven by her daughters, Mary Ellen McPhail and Margaret Friedrich; her son, Charles Friedrich; and her brother, Vernon D. “Pat” Brockway.

In honoring Catherine’s own wishes, there will be no services. Her family invites you to carry her memory in acts of kindness and love in your daily lives.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., of Cuba. Memories and condolences may be shared at

Catherine’s warmth, wisdom, and indomitable spirit will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
