WEATHER ALERT
A 12-year-old girl was injured on Christmas Eve in Houston, Texas, after being struck by a stray bullet from celebratory gunfire. The incident occurred while she was walking with her mother outside an apartment complex. A neighbor, witnessing the incident, offered to drive the girl and her mother to a nearby hospital.
However, due to wet road conditions from previous thunderstorms, the neighbor’s vehicle was involved in a two-car accident near the intersection of Westpark Drive and Hillcroft Avenue at approximately 11:45 p.m. Houston Police Department (HPD) and Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to the accident.
The girl, who sustained a non-life-threatening leg injury from the gunshot, received further medical treatment at the hospital after being transported by HFD following the collision. HPD Sergeant Ali commented, urging responsible celebration and safe practices during festive events. The investigation into the source of the celebratory gunfire is ongoing, and it is unclear whether authorities have identified the shooter.
