A 27-year-old man, Jeston Harris, has been charged with aggravated battery and aggravated assault after shooting an 11-year-old boy in a road rage incident on Chicago’s Northwest Side earlier this month. Harris turned himself in to police on Sunday.
The shooting occurred on December 13th around 8:27 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Western Avenue. An 11-year-old boy, Tayveon Jackson, and his two siblings were on their way to school when a minor traffic accident escalated. According to police, following the minor collision, an argument ensued between the drivers. One driver then produced a firearm and opened fire on the other vehicle.
Tayveon, a passenger in the vehicle, was struck in the left hand. He was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition and released later that evening. Despite his injury, Tayveon displayed remarkable bravery, shielding his siblings from the gunfire. He sustained two broken bones in his thumb as a result. The incident has left him frustrated and unable to participate in his favorite sports, basketball and football.
Chicago police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
