Chris Pratt Talks About Spending His First Paycheck

Chris Pratt has opened up about his spending habits and how he struggled with financial literacy growing up.

A Lavish Spending Spree

In an interview with SiriusXM’s Sway Calloway, the actor revealed that he went on a spending spree after receiving his first paycheck of “$75,000.” Pratt admitted that he felt like he would “never run out of money.”

He joked, “I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ I had lived on very little money for a long time, so the first big job I got, was a TV movie. I got paid $75,000.”
“I was like, ‘I’m never gonna wait again. F*k you, b*hes, I am leaving,'” he joked. “And then about two months later, I was like, ‘Where’d that money go?!'”

Lack of Financial Literacy

Pratt explained that his financial struggles stemmed from a lack of financial education. “We never had any money growing up,” he said. “No one ever taught me financial literacy. I didn’t know what to do with money. It was like, it would come in, I would spend it.”

He added, “It took a good amount of time for me to kind of stop and say, ‘All right, I gotta get wise about this. I have to think about, ‘What am I gonna do? How am I gonna get to the point to where if I stop working one day, I’ll still be OK? My family will be OK.’ So, kind of coming up with a financial literacy plan, you know, later in my life was sort of one of the steps of me growing up.”

A Lesson Learned

Pratt’s experience highlights the importance of financial literacy and the need for individuals to develop healthy spending habits. The actor admitted that he made mistakes in his youth, but he has since learned the value of financial responsibility.

He concluded, “I’m not perfect, but I’m trying to be better. I’m trying to learn from my mistakes and make sure that my kids don’t have to go through the same thing.”
