Firefighters in Mobile rescued a person in a wheelchair, a dog, and two cats from a Christmas morning apartment fire that displaced six families. Rescuers responded to the scene at 7:19 a.m. Wednesday, finding the building filled with smoke visible from second-floor apartments.
The Mobile Fire-Rescue Department reported that firefighters quickly entered the building to extinguish the blaze. Following primary and secondary searches, no additional victims were found. However, the fire caused significant damage to six apartments, displacing eleven people from six families.
After extinguishing the fire, crews salvaged what belongings they could before remaining on-site to ensure complete extinguishment. A subsequent investigation determined the fire was accidental. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced individuals, and no injuries were reported.
