City comptroller resigning for private sector job.
Chicago City Comptroller Chasse Rehwinkel is resigning to take a position as CFO of Devon Bank. The community bank has branches in Chicago, Glenview, and Wheeling.

Rehwinkel announced his departure on X (formerly Twitter), expressing gratitude for his time in public service. He stated, “In my career I have been blessed to work as the Chicago Comptroller as well as State Bank Director—amongst other amazing opportunities. I’ve met some truly amazing people and worked on incredible things. But the time has come for the next adventure! I’m excited to join a new team, but will always be thankful for the many amazing public servants I’ve worked with in my career.”

Rehwinkel’s resignation comes after a challenging budget process. Mayor Brandon Johnson’s initial budget proposal, including a $300 million property tax increase, was rejected by the City Council. The budget ultimately passed without a property tax increase. In a news release celebrating the budget’s approval, Rehwinkel emphasized the city’s commitment to providing essential services to Chicago residents.

Details regarding Rehwinkel’s last day in office remain unavailable.
