In the upscale neighborhoods of Nolita and Brooklyn Heights, nestled amongst stylish storefronts and tree-lined streets, lies Cloudy Donut. Behind its increasingly popular doors, Derrick Faulcon and Zewiditu Jewel are crafting a unique donut experience. Their small-batch, vegan donuts boast over 50 inventive flavors, ranging from strawberry sage to double chocolate brownie crumble.
“The goal was to create a classic Americana donut shop, but with a modern and sophisticated twist,” explains Faulcon. He continues, “We wanted a donut that didn’t leave you feeling overly full – one or two, maybe even three, wouldn’t feel heavy. We have a very niche product; our donuts are light and fluffy, hence the name Cloudy.”
However, Cloudy Donut’s story extends beyond delicious pastries. Faulcon and Jewel are making history as the first Black-owned food and beverage businesses in both Brooklyn Heights and Nolita, trailblazing a path for Black entrepreneurship in the American food industry.
