I happened upon a VHS copy over the summer Deadly chase while I help dad clean out his garage. I looked through the box of videocassettes and found the tape, because I had no idea about the movie. I glanced at the back, which seemed to have been seen by someone familiar.

“This looks like Doug Stone,” I said to myself. Then I loudly said, “IT’S DOUG STONE!” To my surprise, the cover featured the beloved voice of Matt Trakker in the 1985 animated series MASKA.

was the star of the movie. I did a quick Google search and found that the tape was imported from a Canadian film with the original title command games.

Thanks to the fan page Agents MASK that I made with my friend Wyatt, I met Doug Stone at Retro Con 2015 and became friends with him on Facebook. I contacted Doug to get his thoughts on the film:

I worked in theater productions and on-camera in Canada before voiceover became my mainstay. This was a direct-to-video movie at the time. It was shown several times on Canadian television and then went to video. It was made on a very low budget. I believe it was filmed in 1983, although it may have been 1984. The woman who played my wife ended up being my girlfriend after we met on that film.

I think I made three films for this company. The other two I worked with were Death In Hollywood and Shock Chamber. Both titles may have been changed. Someone wrote a book about direct-to-video horror movies and included Shock Chamber in it. I was interviewed for it. I have a 1/2 hour privately financed film for the same director who made Shock Chamber called Transplant. I don’t know where it might be available.

Doug went on to talk about movies…

The budget was small. The sound is terrible, as is the make-up. But it helped pay my bills, got me a few loans, and allowed some of my theater friends, who I introduced to the production company, to get jobs.

I was very grateful to him for giving me an insight into the film. Even crazier, the tape I found in Central PA used to belong to a video rental company in Alpharetta, GA. I have no idea how it ended up in my dad’s collection, but it was a fun find all the same. I loaded it Deadly chase to rediscover the 80s channel on YouTube, and you can watch it below. I could find shock chamber also known Greedy terror also on YouTube. I am looking for the others he mentioned in our conversation so please let me know if you have any information on them. Enjoy the movie!
