Confetti Test Run Planned for Times Square New Year's Eve

Times Square is just days away from its biggest New Year’s Eve celebration. The Crossroads of the World is preparing to welcome millions of revelers to ring in the new year as the iconic ball drops from the rooftop of 1 Times Square. Workers are busy ensuring a smooth event, with a confetti test scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. between 45th and 46th Streets. Co-sponsor Planet Fitness confirmed that this is a trial run for the 3,000 pounds of confetti planned for the New Year’s Eve drop, some of which will include written wishes submitted via a virtual wishing well located in Times Square. The wishing well will remain open for submissions on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Times Square hosted Good Riddance Day, where people gathered to symbolically leave behind the negative experiences of the past year. This was one of several events leading up to the main New Year’s Eve celebration, which will begin around 6 p.m. on December 31st.
