The DailyMotion Video Downloader saves a Dailymotion video as a single file, right in your browser. Paste a video link, and the tool gathers the video pieces from Dailymotion’s own servers and joins them into one download. Use this DailyMotion Video Downloader only for videos you own or have clear permission to save, and always respect the creator’s rights.
How to use the DailyMotion Video Downloader
- Open the video on Dailymotion and copy its page link.
- Paste the link in the box marked “Enter Dailymotion Video URL”.
- Click “Download”.
- Wait while your browser fetches the video pieces and joins them. Long videos take longer and use more memory.
- Click the “Download Video” link that appears.
- The file saves to your device with the name dailymotion_video.mp4.
Keep the tab open until the “Download Video” link appears. Closing it stops the process.
Worked example
Say you paste the link https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8abc12. The tool reads the video ID, x8abc12, from the link. It then asks Dailymotion’s content server for that video’s stream list, downloads each small video piece in order, and joins them into one file. The page then shows a “Download Video” link, and the saved file is named dailymotion_video.mp4.
Nothing is processed on an Ilmhunt server during this. Your own browser asks Dailymotion for the stream list and the pieces, holds them in memory, and joins them into the file. That is why a long video on a weak phone can stall: the whole video has to fit in the open tab’s memory before the download link can appear.
Example results
| What you paste | What the tool does |
|---|---|
| A video page link with /video/ and the video ID | Reads the ID and starts building your download. |
| The same link with extra text after a ? mark | Ignores the extra part and uses the ID only. |
| A dai.ly short link | Shows “Please enter a valid Dailymotion URL.” Open the full page link instead. |
| A YouTube or other site link | Shows “Please enter a valid Dailymotion URL.” and stops. |
| An empty box | Shows “Please enter a valid Dailymotion URL.” and stops. |
| A Dailymotion page link without /video/ | Shows “An error occurred. Please check your URL and try again.” |
The two message wordings tell you where things stopped. The valid URL message means your link failed the first check, before anything was fetched. The error message means the check passed, but the stream list or one of the video pieces could not be loaded afterwards.
Limits and good to know
- Only links containing dailymotion.com and /video/ work. Short dai.ly links and channel or playlist pages do not.
- There is no quality picker. The tool takes the stream pieces listed for the video as they come.
- Every piece is fetched one by one in your browser, so long videos are slow and can fail on phones with little free memory.
- The saved file is always named dailymotion_video.mp4. Rename it after saving if you download more than one.
- The pieces are joined as they are, in an MP4 wrapper. A few players may refuse the file; a flexible player such as VLC usually plays it.
- Only download videos you own or have permission to save. Copyright and Dailymotion’s terms still apply.
- Private videos, age-checked videos and videos removed from Dailymotion will not load, because their stream lists are not public.
Why is my result empty or wrong?
- You see “Please enter a valid Dailymotion URL.”: the link is empty, is a short dai.ly link, or is not from Dailymotion. Paste the full video page link.
- You see “An error occurred.”: the link has no /video/ part, the video is private or removed, or its stream list could not be loaded. Check the video plays on Dailymotion first.
- The “Download Video” link never appears: the pieces are still loading, or one piece failed. Wait, keep the tab open, and try again on a stronger connection.
- The saved file will not play: try a player that handles many formats, such as VLC, or download the video again.
What file you get
The tool reads the video’s own stream list (an HLS playlist) from Dailymotion’s content network, downloads every short video segment in that list into your browser, and joins them into one file named dailymotion_video.mp4. There is no quality menu: the tool takes the stream the playlist offers by default, so the picture quality matches that stream and cannot be raised or lowered here. Because every segment is held in your browser’s memory before the file is offered, long videos need a strong connection and can take a while; if a download stalls, a shorter video or a faster connection usually fixes it.
Why use this DailyMotion Video Downloader?
It works where you already are, in the browser, with no program to install and no file sent to an Ilmhunt server. Your browser talks straight to Dailymotion’s own content servers, joins the pieces, and hands you one file for offline viewing you have the right to keep.
DailyMotion Video Downloader – frequently asked questions
Is the DailyMotion Video Downloader legal to use?
Only for videos you own or have permission to download. Downloading other people's content without rights can break copyright law and Dailymotion's terms.
Can I choose the video quality?
No. The tool takes the stream pieces listed for the video and joins them as they come. There is no quality menu.
Why does a long video take so long?
Your browser downloads every small piece of the video one by one, in order, and joins them in memory. Longer videos have far more pieces, need more memory, and take longer on slow connections.
Is my activity private?
The tool runs in your browser and fetches pieces directly from Dailymotion's servers. No copy of the video is stored by Ilmhunt.
