Obituary: Daniel James Tucker, 83, Beloved Community Figure

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daniel James Tucker, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and a pillar of the Chardon community. Daniel passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024, at UH Geauga Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Daniel was born in Claridon, Ohio, on April 23, 1941, to Arthur and Doris (Matthews) Tucker. He graduated from Berkshire High School and devoted his life to his family and community.

A Life Filled with Service and Joy

  • Community Involvement: Daniel was a tireless advocate for his community. He served as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, dedicating countless hours to delivering meals and bringing comfort to those in need.
  • Church Leadership: Faith played a central role in Daniel’s life. He actively participated in the First Congregational Church of Claridon, where he shared his musical talents by playing the piano and singing, bringing joy and inspiration to the congregation.
  • Leisure Activities: Daniel loved to stay active and engaged. He enjoyed square dancing and going for walks, relishing the opportunity to connect with others and embrace the beauty of nature.

Cherished Memories

Daniel’s legacy will live on through his loving family:

  • Wife of 55 years: Susan (Ponyik) Tucker (predeceased)
  • Children: Rachael (Rich) Zigarovich, Aaron (Beth) Tucker, Paul (Marissa) Tucker
  • Grandchildren: Jacob, Luke, Olivia, Joseph (Gaby), Megan, Isaiah, Macy, Carter
  • Great-Grandson: Levi
  • Sister: Katherine (predeceased)

Daniel’s kindness, compassion, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of countless individuals. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire community.

Memorial Service and Tribute

A memorial calling hour and service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High Street, Middlefield.

The memorial calling hour will commence at 2:00 PM, followed by the memorial service at 4:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Mary Ellen Hoffman.
