James Ruff Hynson, 73, of Pittston, Passes Away

James Ruff Hynson, 73, of Pittston, passed away peacefully on May 19, surrounded by his loving family. James was born in Augusta on January 10, 1949, to the late John and Mary (Smith) Hynson. He graduated from Gardiner High School in 1967 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, James worked for many years as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 107. He was a skilled craftsman and took great pride in his work.
James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was also a member of the Pittston Historical Society and was actively involved in the community.
James is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary (Jones) Hynson; his children, James Jr. (and wife, Sarah) of Pittston, and Jessica (and husband, Michael) of Augusta; his grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, and Evan; his siblings, John Jr. (and wife, Linda) of Farmingdale, and Janet (and husband, Robert) of Pittston; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church in Gardiner on June 1 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ memory to the Pittston Historical Society.
