In Memoriam: Jeffrey B. McKechnie

Jeffrey B. McKechnie, a beloved member of the Skowhegan community, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2023, at the age of 61. Jeff will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A Life Well-Lived

Jeff was born and raised in Skowhegan, Maine. He graduated from Skowhegan Area High School in 1980 and went on to pursue a degree in business at the University of Maine at Farmington. After graduating from college, Jeff returned to Skowhegan and began working for his family’s business, McKechnie’s True Value Hardware. He eventually took over the business and ran it for many years before retiring in 2020.

Jeff was a dedicated member of the Skowhegan community. He served on the town council for several years and was also a member of the Skowhegan Rotary Club. Jeff was a generous supporter of local charities and organizations, and he always made time to help those in need.

In his free time, Jeff enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to go fishing, hunting, and hiking. Jeff was also a talented musician and enjoyed playing guitar and singing. He was a member of the Skowhegan Community Band and often performed at local events.

A Legacy of Love and Service

Jeff’s legacy will live on through his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love of life. Jeff was a true friend to many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Arrangements

A funeral service for Jeff will be held at the East Skowhegan Cemetery on May 30, 2023 at 1 p.m. The service will be officiated by Pastor John Smith of the Skowhegan United Methodist Church. Burial will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jeff’s memory to the Skowhegan Rotary Club or the Skowhegan Community Band.
