WEATHER ALERT: Southeast Texas Tornado Outbreak
A series of tornadoes tore across Southeast Texas on Saturday, December 29, 2024, leaving a trail of destruction and claiming at least one life. The most significant damage occurred in Brazoria County, where an EF-2 tornado carved an 8.8-mile path through the Hillcrest area, causing substantial damage to Walt Disney Elementary School. This tornado tragically resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.
Galveston County also experienced tornado activity. An EF-1 tornado briefly touched down east of Dickinson High School, impacting a relatively small area (250 yards). Despite its short duration, the storm caused significant roof damage to several homes.
Montgomery County faced multiple tornadoes, including a devastating EF-3 that struck Porter Heights, causing widespread destruction to homes and trees. Additional EF-2 tornadoes were reported across the county.
Further damage was reported in Katy, where a powerful tornado ripped through the Windward community on December 28th, damaging homes and flipping vehicles. Chambers County also suffered significant damage, with an EF-3 tornado hitting along Highway 124 and EF-2 damage near Smith Point and along the Chambers-Jefferson County line.
