Did Wicked Win a Golden Globe? (2025)
The cast and crew of *Wicked* made a dazzling appearance at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on January 5th, with stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande gracing the red carpet alongside director Jon M. Chu and co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum. The film’s success was further highlighted by multiple nominations for the cast.

*Wicked* received several Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy (Cynthia Erivo), and Best Supporting Actress (Ariana Grande). Erivo’s nomination recognized her portrayal of Elphaba, while Grande was nominated for her performance as Glinda.

While neither Erivo nor Grande took home individual awards, *Wicked* achieved a significant victory. The film won the Golden Globe Award for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, an accolade presented to films demonstrating both critical acclaim and exceptional box office success. This award, according to Dick Clark Productions, recognizes films that have achieved “extensive global audience support and attained cinematic excellence,” with box office requirements of at least $150 million worldwide gross, including at least $100 million domestically, or equivalent digital streaming viewership. (Note that *Barbie* received this award in the previous year’s Golden Globes.)

The Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy award went to Demi Moore for her role in *The Substance*, while Zoe Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in *Emilia Perez*. Both actresses delivered moving acceptance speeches; Saldaña was visibly emotional receiving her first Golden Globe, and Moore shared a powerful story about overcoming past doubts about her career trajectory. Despite not winning their individual categories, Erivo and Grande showed their support for their fellow nominees.
