Dixie Jane White McKeithen (November 4, 1946 – June 22, 2024)
Dixie Jane White McKeithen, a beloved wife, mother, and highly respected figure in Southern Gospel music, passed away peacefully at the age of 77. Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her devoted 58-year-plus marriage to Timothy McKeithen, and her boundless love for family and friends.
Born on November 4, 1946, Dixie shared a unique bond with her cousin Bonnie White, almost like sisters, having grown up together from infancy. Their shared middle name was a testament to their lifelong connection. Dixie’s musical journey began at Bible College in Tupelo, Mississippi, where she met her husband, Tim. Their shared faith and passion for music formed the bedrock of their enduring relationship.
Dixie’s significant contributions to the Southern Gospel music industry spanned decades. She was a gifted vocalist, songwriter, producer, and later, a booking agent. Her career included cherished stints with several prominent Southern Gospel groups: The Gospel Keys, The Hemphills, and notably, The McKeithens, her family group. For 21 years, she toured with Tim and their daughter, Angelina, playing piano, singing, and contributing significantly to the group’s songwriting and arrangements.
Following her retirement from touring, Dixie dedicated her talents to the Beckie Simmons Agency (BSA), a leading booking agency for Southern Gospel artists. She excelled in her role, booking artists, coordinating tour logistics, and building strong relationships with the BSA team.
Beyond her professional life, Dixie was a pillar of her community. A member of Cornerstone Church and later a dedicated online attendee of World Outreach Church, she was known for her generosity and willingness to help others. Her kitchen table was a frequent gathering place, often welcoming those without family nearby for holiday meals and Sunday dinners. Dixie’s kindness extended to all, and her generosity knew no bounds.
Dixie was remembered for her infectious laugh, warm heart, unwavering support, and her honest, straightforward communication style. Her legacy will live on through her music and the countless lives she touched. She is survived by her husband, Tim, and daughter, Angelina.
A graveside memorial service celebrating Dixie’s life will be held at Christ Church Memorial Gardens on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dixie McKeithen’s honor to Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
