A Vestavia Hills community is rallying around William “Will” Holmes, a 29-year-old Domino’s manager, after he was seriously injured in a New Year’s Eve hit-and-run accident. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Jacobs Road while Holmes was walking home from his night shift at the Columbiana Road Domino’s location. The impact resulted in life-altering injuries, requiring hospitalization at UAB Hospital and multiple surgeries.
Holmes’ injuries include a fractured left arm now stabilized with plates and rods, necessitating a cast for at least six months. He also suffered a broken toe and a concussion. The extensive recovery process will involve ongoing medical care, physical therapy, and a prolonged absence from work. This leaves his fiancĂ©e, Elizabeth Averette, facing significant financial strain despite her efforts to maintain their household.
Angela Jamya Hall, 22, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury. She was released on a $15,000 bond following her January 2nd arrest.
To assist Holmes and Averette during this challenging time, a GoFundMe campaign was launched by Averette and Vestavia Hills resident Allison Cheatwood. The fundraiser highlights Holmes’ character, describing him as a kind, hardworking individual, devoted father, and partner, whose life has been dramatically altered by this unforeseen event. The campaign aims to alleviate the burden of mounting medical bills, ongoing appointments, physical therapy, and daily living expenses incurred during his extensive recovery period. The GoFundMe emphasizes that while legal action is being pursued, immediate community support is crucial to ease the family’s financial pressures and allow them to focus on Holmes’ healing.
